China's domestically produced large passenger aircraft, the C919, is set to begin operations on a new air route connecting Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi Province, with Xiamen in Fujian Province, starting March 30.

The flights will be operated by China Eastern Airlines, with three round-trip flights scheduled each day, enhancing the connectivity between these two significant regions.

Currently, China Eastern Airlines operates a total of 14 C919 aircraft. These state-of-the-art planes are utilized on 19 routes, covering 16 airports across 14 cities, including major hubs like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

China Eastern Airlines was the first airline to receive the C919 aircraft, launching its commercial operations on May 28, 2023, marking a significant milestone for domestic aviation technology.

In addition to the new Xi'an to Xiamen route, Air China's C919s will also commence operations on March 29, providing one round-trip flight per day connecting Beijing and Xiamen.

Air China is expanding its fleet of C919s, growing its routes to a total of 11. The airline is also planning to introduce a new route between Beijing and Harbin, which will offer two round-trip flights daily.

Another prominent airline, China Southern Airlines, has acquired 10 C919 aircraft. This airline is actively expanding its fleet and currently operates 10 regular commercial routes that connect 21 major cities across China.

Key routes provided by China Southern include Guangzhou-Beijing, Guangzhou-Hangzhou, and Changsha-Shanghai, which play a vital role in domestic air travel and contribute to the overall growth of the aviation sector.

Overall, the launch of new C919 routes signifies not only advancements in aviation technology but also reflects China’s commitment to enhancing its transportation infrastructure.

As these airlines increase their C919 operations, the impact on domestic air travel and the broader economic landscape is expected to be substantial, providing more efficient connectivity and bolstering regional economies.
