The Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the China Meteorological Administration have jointly released travel weather advice for the upcoming Spring Festival holiday, which runs from February 15 to February 23. As this festive season approaches, the agencies emphasize the importance of being aware of weather changes to ensure a safe and enjoyable travel experience.
Nationwide, travelers can expect pleasant weather conditions. Most regions will see temperatures higher than usual for this time of year, making it generally suitable for travel. Particularly favorable climates will be found in South China, eastern Jiangnan, and parts of southwestern China, where conditions are rated comfortable. The southern regions of Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, and Hainan are anticipated to reach the 'most comfortable' level this holiday.
While the northern regions may experience slightly lower comfort levels, they offer rich opportunities for winter sports, with ample snow resources available. Travelers heading to these areas should be sure to dress warmly and take necessary precautions against the cold.
However, it is vital for travelers to be mindful of the two significant weather events predicted during the holiday. At the start of the Spring Festival (February 15 to 16), a cold front will cause temperatures in central and eastern regions to decrease by 4 to 8 degrees Celsius, and areas in Jianghuai and Jiangnan may experience even sharper drops of 10 to 12 degrees Celsius. Expect light to moderate rainfall in Jianghuai, Jianghan, Jiangnan, South China, and eastern Southwest China, with potential heavy rain in parts of northern Jiangnan.
Later in the holiday (February 21 to 23), another wave of cold air will sweep through the central and eastern parts of the country, leading to similar temperature drops in most areas north of the middle and lower Yangtze River. Here, some locations may see decreases exceeding 10 degrees; light to moderate snow is likely in eastern Northwest China, central and eastern Inner Mongolia, and Northeast China. Concurrently, light to moderate rain will affect regions in Jiangnan, South China, and eastern Southwest China.
