China Meteorological Administration has released its inaugural Blue Book on the climate resource economy, a significant step toward integrating sustainable development across multiple sectors.

Amid escalating global climate challenges, the significance of climate resources has emerged as a critical element in driving sustainable social and economic growth, as highlighted by a CMA official.

The Blue Book presents a comprehensive examination of the economic transformation and utilization of climate resources, focusing on vital areas such as agriculture, energy, health, and low-carbon development.

In agriculture, the Blue Book emphasizes that evaluations of agroclimatic resources have reinforced food security, showing a northward shift in maize cultivation within northeast China by approximately 61 million mu, which is nearly 4.1 million hectares.

Regarding the energy sector, research demonstrates that improving the accuracy of wind and solar energy forecasts can reduce disaster-related losses and enhance power grid management.

Additionally, the tourism sector has benefited from the evolution of climate-influenced landscapes, such as seas of clouds and sunrises, which now serve as new drivers of economic growth in specific regions.

This pivotal Blue Book not only aids in the effective utilization of climate resources but also supports China's ambitions related to carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, along with the broader development of ecological civilization.

Moreover, it functions as a valuable scientific reference, offering insights for research, informing government policy, stimulating industrial innovation, and advancing climate governance.
