Highlights
Mianyang's China Giant Panda Garden in Sichuan has 54 enclosures and cares for 20 pandas, aiding conservation efforts.
Mianyang's China Giant Panda Garden, located in Sichuan Province, has officially opened to the public on December 21, inviting visitors to experience the charm of these adored creatures as they become accustomed to their new surroundings.
As a dual-purpose conservation and visitor facility, the garden features five functional zones and provides 54 panda enclosures. To date, 20 giant pandas have been relocated to the gardens, having successfully completed their initial adjustment phase.
Among the residents of the garden are pandas ranging in age from 4 to 27, including notable pandas such as Hua Bao and Jin Bao Bao, who made their return to China after previously residing in Finland.
Mianyang plays a pivotal role in the broader conservation of giant pandas in their natural habitats. Recent data from China's fourth national giant panda survey reveals that the region boasts 418 wild pandas, solidifying its status as a key area for panda conservation, given its dense population and robust genetic diversity.
The design of the China Giant Panda Garden seeks to simulate the natural environment of the pandas. Set against a scenic backdrop of mountains and valleys, the park features gently sloped enclosures that allow the animals to roam freely while ensuring a safe distance from one another, mirroring the conditions found in the wild.
Looking ahead, the garden has plans to welcome newborn panda cubs in the next one to two years, contingent on the success of its breeding initiatives.
