Exhibition Marks 80 Years of Resistance in China

On August 25, a significant art exhibition titled "Victory of the People – Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War" was unveiled at the China National Museum of Fine Arts in Beijing. This exhibition, co-organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, showcases over 300 classic and newly created artworks from esteemed institutes such as the China National Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of the History of the Communist Party of China.

Featuring a diverse range of genres, including traditional Chinese painting, oil painting, printmaking, sculpture, and watercolor, the exhibition vividly narrates the epic tale of unity and collective resistance as championed by the Communist Party of China. It stands as a heartfelt tribute to the enduring spirit of resistance, aiming to inspire visitors to remember the past, honor the sacrifices of martyrs, value peace, and work towards a brighter future.

Organized under the theme "Victory of the People," the exhibition is divided into five chronological chapters: Preface, National Crisis, Bloodshed and Struggle, Great Victory, and The Path to Revival. The preface features classic works such as "The Meeting in Tokyo" and "The Torch of Yan'an," encapsulating the patriotic fervor of the Chinese citizens who believed in communal responsibility for the nation’s destiny. It highlights their steadfast spirit in adversity, courage against oppression, and unwavering belief in eventual triumph.

The subsequent chapters delve into the challenges faced during the arduous 14-year war, underscoring the pivotal role of the Communist Party of China as a key player in the Eastern theater of the World Anti-Fascist War. These narratives assert that justice, peace, and the collective will of the people are bound to prevail.

The exhibition invites guests to explore the monumental artistic journey created throughout the 80 years since the anti-Japanese war. During these tumultuous times, artists transformed their brushes into weapons, channeling the spirit of the people to inspire resilience and establish an intangible but powerful Great Wall of spiritual fortitude. In peaceful times, they maintained their patriotic zeal through themes of resistance, illuminating the profound legacy of the anti-war movement.

In contemporary times, artists continue to create inspired works that reflect the spirit of resilience, contributing to cultural missions that promote and perpetuate this great legacy. The displayed artworks encourage visitors to engage in maintaining world peace, support collaborative futures for humanity, and work toward the revitalization of the Chinese nation. The exhibition is scheduled to run until September 18, during which the museum will also offer a digital interactive experience of "The Yellow River Cantata" and various educational activities.
