Stage Art Showcase Marks 80 Years of War Victories

Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, August 22 - To solemnly commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's Anti-Japanese War and the World Anti-Fascist War, a showcase of excellent stage art works will be held from late August to late October 2025 in Beijing. This event is organized by the Central Propaganda Department and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, with the Art Bureau of the Central Propaganda Department and the Arts Department of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism responsible for execution. A total of 22 outstanding stage art works from across the country will participate.
The showcased works emphasize the theme of "Remembering history, honoring the martyrs, cherishing peace, and creating the future." The lineup includes dance dramas such as "In the Depths of Memory," concerts like "Ode to Peace," and plays such as "The Butcher," which reflect the global anti-fascist themes from an international perspective. There are also modern Peking operas like "The Northern Guerrilla Team," musicals such as "Harbin Under the Night," and Shanghai opera pieces like "The Fire Seed in the Reeds," depicting the fierce struggles of guerrilla fighters and underground Communist Party members against the enemy.
The program features plays like "Longyin Residence," acrobatic dramas like "First Sound," and Peking operas such as "Yanyitang," along with Guizhou opera plays like "Jide Spring," which depict revolutionary beliefs passed down through generations within family narratives during the War of Resistance. Other featured works include plays like "Yanshui Ballad," "Cultural and Artistic Work in the War of Resistance," and dance dramas such as "Hot-Blooded Songs," reflecting the creative journeys of revolutionary artists.
Moreover, there will be ballet dramas like "Return of the Red Lily," and Taiwanese opera pieces such as "The Soul of Overseas Chinese in the Flames of War," showcasing the patriotic feelings of returning overseas Chinese. Additionally, works like Long opera "The River Flows East," Huangmei opera "On the Sun Mountain," Chu opera "People of Dabieshan," and Cantonese opera "The Brother of the Camel's Flag" will portray the awakening of national spirit among the general public.
The showcased works will include plays such as "The Songs of Qiantang," focusing on the unwavering spirit of the older generation of intellectuals, as well as children’s plays like "Information That Cannot Be Sent" and Peking opera "Little Soldier Zhang Ga," depicting the anti-Japanese efforts of children during the war era.
The performance will combine offline shows and online broadcasts, taking place at 11 theaters including the Central Opera House, the National Theatre, the Tianqiao Theatre, the Beijing Concert Hall, and the Tianqiao Art Center, with around 40 offline performances planned. Additionally, full video recordings of the performances will be uniformly released on central media, the government portal of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the "Xuexi Qiangguo" learning platform, the "Voice of Culture and Tourism" new media platform, the "Artistic China" broadcasting platform, and the new media platforms of cultural and tourism administrative departments across various regions, allowing excellent works to reach a broader audience and expand the impact of the showcase.
