In the first half of 2025, China recorded a remarkable 33.76 billion cross-regional passenger trips, marking a 4.2 percent increase compared to the same timeframe last year, as reported by the Ministry of Transport.

The growth in transportation was driven by an increase in various travel modes. Rail journeys experienced a notable rise of 6.7 percent, while road travel saw a growth of 4 percent. Air travel also contributed positively to the overall figures, with the number of air passengers increasing by 6 percent.

A significant highlight of the travel sector was the resurgence in international flights, which surged dramatically by 28.5 percent, indicating a robust recovery in global travel demand.

In parallel with passenger travel, freight traffic maintained a strong performance, showcasing the resilience of global logistics. The total commercial freight volume reached 28.03 billion tonnes, reflecting a 3.9 percent year-on-year increase.

Moreover, the port cargo throughput in China continued its upward trend, with the number of foreign trade containers experiencing a fast-paced growth. During this period, Chinese ports handled a total of 8.9 billion tonnes of cargo, which represented a 4 percent increase from the previous year.

Investment in transportation infrastructure remained steady at 1.65 trillion yuan, approximately 231 billion dollars. This consistent investment underscores the continued dedication to enhancing the country's transportation framework.

The positive developments in cross-regional trips and freight logistics reflect a dynamic and growing transportation sector that is pivotal for China's economy. The increase in both passenger and cargo movements indicates a strengthening of domestic and international economic ties.

As the nation moves forward, these advancements in transportation are seen as crucial for supporting further economic expansion and improving connectivity across different regions.
