Xinjiang Showcases Intangible Cultural Heritage Event

On August 15, the themed display event titled "Xinjiang is a Good Place" was launched in the Hotan region of Xinjiang, highlighting intangible cultural heritage (ICH). This event was co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the People's Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Notable attendees included Rao Quan, the Vice Minister of Culture and Tourism; Maimaiti Ming Kade, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region People’s Congress; Kiyser Kiyum, Vice Chairman of the Autonomous Region; Liu Jianming, Deputy Political Commissar of the Corps; and Batu, Vice Chairman of the Autonomous Region Political Consultative Conference.
The event, themed "Culture Enriches Xinjiang, ICH Adds Color," featured a main venue showcasing 435 representative ICH projects from Xinjiang, the Corps, and 25 other provinces and regions. It also brought together 383 inheritors of ICH. Highlights of the venue included sections dedicated to "ICH Display," "ICH Dance Rhythm," and "ICH Market," all aimed at demonstrating the successes of ICH protection, inheritance, and collaborative exchanges between regions, while fostering interactions and integration among diverse ethnic groups. Additionally, the Hotan Museum and other sub-venues offered a variety of activities, such as exhibitions, hands-on experiences, and ICH performances.
Simultaneously, the Summer ICH Shopping Month was launched as part of the third-quarter activities of the 2025 Seasonal ICH Shopping Month. This initiative focuses on bridging different locations through a combination of offline exhibitions and online livestreaming, effectively promoting a selection of summer-themed intangible cultural heritage products, tourism routes, and experiential activities. The aim is to enhance visibility for local cultural and tourism resources while stimulating cultural tourism consumption.
The "Xinjiang is a Good Place" themed display event for ICH has been celebrated for five consecutive years, engaging a total of 1,450 ICH inheritors and showcasing 1,217 representative ICH projects. This initiative has significantly contributed to enriching the culture of Xinjiang and strengthening the sense of national community among the Chinese populace. The event is set to continue until August 19.
