Xinjiang Cultural Heritage Event Showcases Local Traditions
Highlights
The 'Xinjiang is a Good Place' themed display event for intangible cultural heritage opened in Hotan, showcasing projects and inheritors and promoting cultural exchange.
On August 15, a significant event titled "Xinjiang is a Good Place" was inaugurated in the Hotan area of Xinjiang. This themed display event focused on intangible cultural heritage (ICH) and was organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in collaboration with the People's Government of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. Noteworthy attendees included Rao Quan, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism; Mai Maitiming Kade, Vice Chairman of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region People's Congress Standing Committee; Kiyser Kyuym, Vice Chairman of the Autonomous Region; and other prominent officials.
The event, themed "Cultural Enrichment for Xinjiang, ICH Adds Color," showcased a vibrant collection of 435 ICH representative projects from Xinjiang, the Corps, as well as 25 additional provinces and municipalities. It featured 383 ICH inheritors and provided a platform for segments such as "ICH Display," "ICH Dance," and "ICH Market." The goal was to highlight achievements in ICH preservation and inheritance while fostering interaction and integration among diverse ethnic groups. Complementary activities hosted at sub-venues, including the Hotan Museum, offered citizens and tourists a multitude of exhibitions, hands-on experiences, and performances related to ICH.
In conjunction with the event, the ICH Summer Shopping Month was launched as part of the third-quarter activities for the 2025 Seasonal ICH Shopping Month. This initiative creates a robust connection across various regions, blending offline exhibitions and sales with online live broadcasts. It aims to promote a selection of summer-themed ICH products, tourism routes, and engaging experiential activities, thereby highlighting local cultural and tourism resources and stimulating cultural consumption.
The "Xinjiang is a Good Place" ICH aid-themed display event has successfully taken place for five consecutive years, witnessing participation from a total of 1,450 ICH inheritors and displaying 1,217 ICH representative projects. This initiative has played a vital role in implementing cultural enrichment in Xinjiang and nurturing a strong sense of Chinese national community. The event will continue until August 19.
